Fidget Spinners: What They Are, and Why the buzz!

Fidget Spinners are fun for all ages!  This is the reason they are an antidote for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and autism. Simply, they relieve stress and anxiety. These toys are so hot, they are being banned in classrooms across the country.

The spinners are small, ball-bearing devices that can rotate between fingers.  Just hold it between your thumb and middle finger and spin with the other hand, or flick it with your index finger.  Either way, it will keep your mind occupied and your hands busy!

Fidget spinners are:

  • Made of plastic, silicone, or metal with carbon steel and plastic ball bearings
  • Rotates for approximately 2 minutes
  • Spins on many hard surfaces
  • Fun for all ages (6+)

The spinning of the toy provides a pleasing sensory experience. According to user reviews, the challenge of tossing, transferring and twirling the spinners has spawned an entire universe of instructional YouTube videos. [How Fidget Spinners Work: It’s All About the Physics]

The key to this spinning toy is Ball bearings. To get any object to rotate, you need to exert a twisting force, known as torque, on it. That’s where a set of little hands comes into play: “In a fidget spinner, you hold the center of one ball bearing, the outer bearing race spins around, and the outer parts of the fidget spin with the outer bearing race,” Doherty said. “One flick of the fidget with a finger or a rapid twist of the wrist sets the fidget in motion, and it keeps going because of the low friction.”

How to decorate silicone fidget Spinners:

There are many types of spinners.  Some are made of metal, others are made of wood, others are baked, and even silicone.  To decorate silicone fidget spinners, you’ll need the SE Silicone ink.  The SE silicone ink is not only compliant but also easy to work with.  Mix the silicone ink with the catalyst and the reducer and print your artwork on the spinner.  Put the printed spinner into an oven to dry for 2 minutes at 200°F. That is it!
